Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Urban Shadow is a leader in the creation and supply of shade sails as an artistic and functional way to spice up outdoor living spaces. The company offers a variety of shade sail services, ranging from custom designs to final installation on all commercial and residential sites. Since their founding in 2002, Urban Shadow's experts have designed, engineered, and constructed high-caliber tensile fabric structures for hundreds of commercial projects, including some of the most exclusive master-planned communities, resorts, and business complexes in the Southwest. Although traditionally created for commercial venues, the addition of a customer division in 2007 now allows homeowners to benefit from the superior design, construction quality, and efficiency of Urban Shadow's shade sail product lines.

What I Did

Urban Shadow is a unique and trendy company that needed a unique and trendy web design to accurately portray their services. Early on, I decided that much of the branding on the site would come directly from pictures of the sails, as they are extremely artistic in nature. Once I determined that the products and graphic branding elements would be the main focus of the site, I was then able to design a very image-oriented layout, using a variety of colorful product pictures, residential and commercial scenes, and trendy graphics for the main navigational structure. I also used bold, modern, and edgy colors to reinforce the revolutionary business of Urban Shadows. The industries served by Urban Shadows and the remaining information on the site was broken up into very distinguished blocks along the left side of the page to allow for easy reading and engagement among potential clients. In all, I was able to capture the fresh and cutting-edge atmosphere of Urban Shadows while using the site as a live portfolio of their work and unique shade designs.
